The Boy Scouts, Gays, and Parental Responsibility

With the Boy Scouts of America’s recent decree that Ryan Andreson, a Boy Scout who had recently come out as homosexual after completing his Eagle Scout requirements, was no longer eligible for membership in the organization, questions are being raised again about the BSA’s policies and how they are justified against the Scout pledge to “respect and defend the rights of all people.” Professor Geoffrey R. Stone from the University of Chicago writes that the decision is “revolting” in this day and age and urges parents not only to decline purchasing the popcorn or supporting the Boy Scouts and their discriminatory policies, but to think twice about allowing their kids to join the organization.
