A recent survey of over 3,000 business owners shows that 57% of Millennial business owners plan to increase the amount of money they spend on online workers in 2013 by at least twice as much as they do now, and 82% believe that many businesses will be built with entirely virtual teams within the next decade. Major businesses like American Express, Amazon, United Health, and Aetna are hiring more online workers and benefitting from the larger employee pool, less real estate costs, and reduced turnover. Businesses are even beginning to innovate around the idea of virtual employees, creating office spaces that can be rented for just a single day.
