Seeing Through the Glass Ceiling

As women take on high profile business positions, from Marissa Mayer at Yahoo to Sheryl Sandberg at Facebook, the question rises of how these successful women perceive the glass ceilings which social science research reports hold women back. Female executive perception of the glass ceiling can be not only complicated, but can influence whether or not they create policies that will help other women. Sociologists Erin Cech and Mary Blair-Loy, from Rice University and the University of California at San Diego respectively, examined the factors that impact a woman’s perception of the glass ceiling in a recent study.
