New Ruling Beneficial for Children of Lesbian and Gay Federal Employees

Thanks to the leadership of the Family Equality Council, a national organization that supports and represents LGBT parents, federal employees are now able to extend medical coverage to the legal children of their same-sex partner. Domestic partnership requires a simple declaration and the federal employee does not need to live in an area with a formal domestic partnership registry. Though this is just a proposed rule change, other LGBT-friendly rules have been approved this way. After a period of public comment, the change should hopefully be approved and will be a positive step forward for recognition of LGBT families.
