Citing the tendency of groups and politicians who fight against legislature for gay marriage or gay rights in general to be labeled as “pro-family” by the media and even by pro-gay activists, Padraig McCoid urges for a reconsideration of the moniker. Is it pro-family to protest the right of loving couples to enjoy benefits that facilitate important family functions? Is it pro-family to actively work against the creation of loving and stable families? Labeling anti-gay right groups as “anti-family” may be extreme, but applying the pro-family label instead to those individuals who are seeking to form more families, improve the stability of marriage, and protect children by providing stable homes makes sense.
