Rebecca Shambaugh has coined the phrase “getting on the right escalator” to describe a situation for women in the corporate world. It means moving their career in the right direction or keeping away from situations that may stop their career from progressing the way it ought to. Shambaugh’s personal hurdles involved getting too comfortable with jobs that she enjoyed to the point where a lack of interest prevented her from taking opportunities with the potential of advancement. Comfortable positions led to disinterest and her vocal enjoyment led to others not encouraging her to move forward.
