Facebook’s Sandberg Believes Women Executives Lack Equality

In a speech to Harvard Business School, Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer, told students that women leaders are still treated differently than men in similar positions. “The promise of equality is not equality,” Sandberg stated. Women make up only 15-16% of the high executive levels in business, a number that hasn’t changed since Sandberg graduated from Harvard Business School in 1995, and a statistic that may lead women to have lower expectations for their careers. Facebook itself has come under scrutiny for having a board consisting of seven white men. As Sandberg stated in her speech, “We will not close the leadership gap until we close the professional-ambition gap.”
