LGBT rights activist Waymon Hudson writes that there is no way to separate LGBT equality from economic issues in response to those who claim not to be a “single issue voter” or who want to weigh the needs of the economy against LGBT rights in the election. Waymon writes that media portrays gays usually as affluent white males, but the reality is that LGBT citizens face higher rates of joblessness and poverty, as well as lower wages than their heterosexual counterparts. LGBT workers can legally be refused hire, or even fired, because of their sexual orientation in the majority of states.
