The 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week was the first week of October, and with it came a reinvigoration of the issues about LGBT content in children’s books. Several books with LGBT content were in the top 100 most challenged books for the 2000-2009 decade, but the top 10 list for 2011 did not have any books challenged for LGBT content. There are fears that the lack of LGBT content books challenged in 2011 doesn’t stem from an increasing amount of tolerance, but rather because there were not that many books published throughout the year with LGBT content.
