Virginia Rometty, who took over as IBM’s CEO last October, has recently also been named as the company’s new chairman once current chairman Samuel J. Palmisano retires. Rometty had been in several leadership roles throughout the company, including sales, marketing, and services before her appointment as CEO. She announced last year when she took over duties as CEO that she plans for IBM to continue to follow the course Palmisano set during his time as CEO, focusing IBM on software, cloud computing, and systems analysis. Palmisano will remain with the company as senior adviser after he retires.
