Gay ‘Cure’ Fight Moves to New Jersey

California recently became the first state to prohibit therapists from using therapy techniques to attempt to change the sexual orientation of a patient younger than 18 years old. Democratic Assemblyman Timothy Eustace plans to introduce similar legislation to New Jersey soon. The purported purpose of the legislation is to get rid of child abuse since, while no official studies have been done on the effects of the therapy, there are an abundance of anecdotal stories of depression and suicide in young people who have undergone it. The American Psychological Association said in a report that the therapy is unlikely to be successful and involve risk of harm.
