Gay Boy Scout leader says he was forced out

Greg Bourke had been a boy scout volunteer for five years when the pastor of the church his troop met at informed him the church might lose its scouting charter if Bourke remained. Bourke wrote Boy Scouts executives, disclosing that he was openly homosexual and the father of an adopted son and daughter, asking if he was welcome. According to a Boy Scouts policy enacted in 1991 and recently reaffirmed, he is not. The response he received from the executives was that while the Boy Scouts do not actively inquire into the sexual orientation of members, Bourke willingly disclosed to them that he “did not meet Scouting’s membership standards.”
