NOM Strategist Frank Schubert’s job for the past year has been to temper the NOM agenda and use it in campaign ads targeted at swaying voters away from marriage equality in North Carolina, Washington, Maryland, Minnesota, and Maine. Public filings show that between the campaigns, he was paid just about $3 million. The advertisements that carried such high price tags claim marriage equality impacts children’s education, forces religions to perform ceremonies that conflict with their beliefs, or represents an attempt on the part of legislators to circumvent the will of the people. Schubert said in a recent New York Times profile that he does not mean to imply gay couples can’t have loving family relationships.
