Studies show that women who find mentors to help them professionally can provide enough guidance and encouragement to close the salary gap between men and women. Mentees need to have a defined idea of what they want to achieve, and need to establish when they will meet with their mentors. Mentors and mentees do not have to be in the same career field or even work at the same type of company for the relationship to work. The most important things a woman should look for in a mentor is someone who shares things in common with her and someone who can give her clear, honest advice that pertains to her career path.
