Dana Rudolph at Mombian.com discusses 13 myths about LGBT parents and their children that are harmful to the LGBT community in varying ways and then takes a look at their veracity. The first of the myths is that LGBT parents are something new, when in reality there are child custody cases from the early 1970’s involving lesbian mothers and their ex-husbands. Another myth is that LGBT parents have their kids after coming out, but according to UCLA demographer Gary Gates, many LGBT parents are raising children from prior heterosexual relationships. There are also myths that LGBT parents are all white and all educated middle class.
